In one of my youtube videos I played a drum beat on my Roland Ax Edge and it generated quite a few questions from fellow Ax Edge players curious as to how I was able to play a drum kit on the Roland Ax Edge. I admit, playing a drum beat on an Ax Edge isn’t the most obvious of instruments you would want to play on a Keytar but for those occasions you might want to create a drum beat, here is a free drum kit for you to download.
DOWNLOAD FREE AX EDGE DRUM KIT 1
Once you have downloaded the iBand Ax Edge Drumkit to your Android or IOS device, find the zip file on your device and unzip the IBandDrumsPart1.axl file on your phone or tablet. If you downloaded it directly to your phone or tablet it will most likely be in the download folder. On an Android device click on the Files App, tap on Internal Storage and then on the Download file. Now tap on the IBandDrumsPart1.axl file and, in the the Open As option list, tap on other. Scroll through the apps until you find the Ax-Edge Editor App icon and tap on the Ax-Edge Editor icon. The Ax-Edge Editor app should now open.
Tap Setup at the top right of the screen, turn on your Ax Edge (and the bluetooth on your Ax Edge) and tap BT Devices. Tap on Ax-Edge then use your device’s back button to return to the Ax-Edge Editor app. Scroll down to 832:My drums, tap 832:My drums then tap Edit.
Tap on Librarian in the top left of the screen then change the Mode from Program to Tone, by tapping on Program and tapping on Tone from the drop down list. Scroll down to tone 11: My drums1, tap on it and tap on the word Preview that now appears to the left of 011:My drums1. You can now play the drum kit on your Ax Edge. The Bass drum is on the second C from the left, the Snare drum is on the second D, the Crash cynbal is on the 3rd C# and the Ride cymbal is on the 3rd D#. These keys match the standard DAW settings for midi drums.
If you want to save the drumkit to your Roland Ax Edge…
Tap Editor at the top of the screen and, in the tone section, tap Edit. Tap Write at the top right of the screen, select an empty user tone slot and tap Write at the bottom right of the screen. Finally, tap Write near the top right of the screen and select a program slot to save to and tap write at the bottom right of the screen.
